Flaked Oats (Rolled Oats) – Poultry & Waterfowl Feed
Flaked Oats (Rolled Oats) – Usually oats make up about 15-25% of a chicken’s diet, but can comprise up to 60% of their diet, replacing the corn.
This cereal crop contains 12-14% protein, due to this lower protein content, they are ideal as a feed supplement rather than sole feed. They are higher in calcium than wheat and corn.
Flaked Oats are a good source of oils, protein and vitamins. The rolling process makes the protein more soluble and so easier to digest.
Flaked Oats have been de-husked before they are rolled, so contain less fibre, which makes them more digestible for chickens and waterfowl.
Oats are a good cereal to feed horses.
Flaked Oats is a very good feed for wild birds, especially insect eating birds such as blackbirds, thrushes and robins. Being rolled they will not sprout, making for a cleaner feeding area for wild birds. Do not add water, as this makes them glutinous and more likely to stick to the beaks of the birds.
